If your piano is not performing at its most efficient, Rae at Opportune Pianos will make your piano sound better and feel easier to play.

Piano Services

Tuning

Regular piano tuning will ensure your piano is kept in the best possible shape, and up to pitch. Pianos are very sensitive to climate fluctuations, so it is recommended to maintain scheduled tunings every six months to a year to ensure its stability.

Servicing / Cleaning

In addition to tuning, a piano requires regular servicing, to adjust, lubricate and clean the complex inside parts. A thorough cleaning of your piano removes miscellaneous debris, dust and grime on the soundboard, tuning pins and keybed. This minimises the risk of old dirt acting as abrasives on moving parts; it will reduce any apparent clicks, buzzes or rattles; and will help to control insect damage. Cleaning also allows a thorough evaluation of the condition of the action parts, so there are no nasty surprises down the track.

Regulation

Regulation is a process of specialised adjustments of the keys and piano action, in order to sustain maximum efficiency of the keys, hammers and dampers, whilst minimising unwanted movements and friction, and eliminating extraneous noises.

Repairs

Minor repairs (broken strings, sticking keys, sluggish mechanisms, spring replacements) can be usually be carried out on site prior to tuning, however in some cases the piano action may be required to be taken into the Opportune Pianos workshop. Please speak to Rae if you think your piano needs some extra attention and isn’t playing to its full potential.

Voicing

Voicing is the process of toning and shaping the hammers to create clarity and an evenness of tone across the bass, tenor and treble registers. It is customised to your piano, musical style, sound palette, and level of playing.
